Located beneath the ornate 200-foot California Tower, the San Diego Museum of Man is devoted to anthropology, bringing together beauty, history, art, and artifacts from ancient and contemporary cultures.   A key focus of the museum is to create and display dynamic and educational anthropological exhibits about people and places throughout the Americas and around the world.

Permanent exhibitions include Footsteps in Time: Four Million Years of Human Evolution–an introduction to humankind’s long history; Ancient Egypt, showcasing rare Egyptian artifacts over 3,000 years old; the Children’s Discovery Center, where kids can dress up in ancient Egyptian costumes and see an Egyptian mummy adorned with royal jewelry; and Kumeyaay: Native Californians, where traditional Kumeyaay lifestyles are preserved and presented.

Hours: Daily, 10:00 am–4:30 pm
Closed: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Directions: From east or west: I-163 South, exit University Ave. Go straight on 6th Ave, left on Laurel (El Prado), cross the bridge and the Museum of Man is the first museum on your left.
From the south: I-5 N, exit 6th Ave, left on Laurel, follow as above.
From the north: I-5 S, exit Laurel St., left on Laurel, follow as above.
